Meet Linc
  • 56 years old
  • Lives in Exeter with his wife, Stephanie, and their three children, Louisa, Caleb and Thea
  • Born and raised in Rhode Island by his father, John Chafee, the late United States Senator, Secretary of the Navy, and Governor of Rhode Island, and his mother Virginia Coates Chafee, an early environmentalist
  • Graduate of Brown University, with a degree in Classics, received the Francis M. Driscoll Award for leadership, scholarship and athletics
  • 1976 to 1983 worked as a blacksmith at harness racetracks in Kentucky, Florida, and Alberta, Canada
  • Entered politics in 1985 as a delegate to the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention.
  • 1986 to 1990 worked as a planner at Electric Boat, Quonset
  • Served four years on the Warwick City Council
  • In 1992, became Warwick Mayor
  • Reelected in 1994, 1996 and 1998
  • Appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1999
  • Elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000. Served on the Foreign Relations Committee and the Environment and Public Works Committee
  • Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies 2007-2009
  • In 2008, wrote the Washington memoir Against The Tide, How a Compliant Congress Empowered A Reckless President

  • Rhode Island native
  • B.S. in nursing, Boston University; Master's in Business Administration, University of Connecticut; Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters, University of Rhode Island
  • Registered nurse, one of the first in Rhode Island to work exclusively with HIV/AIDS patients
  • Community health care advocate for all Rhode Islanders, particularly the less fortunate
  • A founding member of the Rhode Island Free Clinic, a leading healthcare provider for the uninsured in South Providence
  • Co-founder of Women Ending Hunger
  • Served on advisory boards for such institutions as Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, the Rhode Island Zoological Society and the Rhode Island Foundation
